Welcome Aboard
The Marine Division of the Jackson County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the enforcement of the marine safety laws on the 22 Lakes and 4 rivers that are located within the County of Jackson. Although primarily assigned to enforce marine safety violations, the Marine Division members are often the first responder or back up unit to the Road Patrol membership. A large portion of the divisions responsibility begins before the boating season starts completing inspections on boats, liveries, and public marinas.

All members of the Marine Division are sworn Deputy Sheriff's with full powers of arrest. The entire membership is comprised of seasonal employees who contribute their time away from their full time employment to ensure the practices of safe and responsible boating operation.

A major responsibility of the Marine Division is the boater safety training program. This program provides hundreds of hours of boater safety education and certification to young adults who either reside permanently or seasonally within the County. We will be posting a schedule of training dates here as they become available.

Training
All Marine Division members are emergency medical technicians, several are paramedics. Each member is an accomplished swimmer and many are NOMI certified divers who have been trained in underwater body recovery. Each member receives annual training in law enforcement issues, marine safety, first aid, alcohol enforcement and various other related programs. 

Equipment
The Marine Unit presently has three 20' Sea Ray outboard motor equipped units, a 17' aluminum rapid water rescue unit and two Yamaha Wave Raider III 1100 jet skis. All units are towed by four wheel drive patrol vehicles. 

Each unit is equipped with first aid and emergency medical , scuba diving, water recovery and marine safety equipment. And the most significant equipment of all sun tan oil and insect repellent.
