Jackson County Animal Control Officers enforce the Michigan State Dog Laws as well as the Jackson County Animal Protection Ordinances. Officers respond to both emergency and non-emergency domestic animal problems and can be dispatched by calling 911.
Animal Control Officers are dispatched to handle the following types of complaints:
- Dangerous/vicious dogs
- Human or animals attacked/bitten by dog
- Livestock killed by dog
- Dogs running loose
- Animal cruelty complaints
- Injured animals
- Wandering/loose livestock-will be secured until owners can be found
- Transport stray or dead domestic animals to the animal shelter
Animal Control Officers are on call 7 days a week for emergencies only. Some examples of emergency calls would be - dog, cat or ferret bite to a person, severely injured dogs, or severely injured confined cats if the owner can not be found, a vicious/attacking dog.
